So yesterday I posted Dana of Minibird Photography’s maternity session, and today I am sharing what was supposed to be her birth session. So early on we decided I would photograph Dana’s birth of her son. A few weeks later my husband and I were notified that we were to be leaving Beaufort in late June rather than October time frame. That got me worried because she was due June 15. What if she went past her due date? I would be moving or already gone if that happened. So we said we would play it by ear. The weeks came and went. We started moving, movers came and went.. no baby yet. I know there were so many anxious onlookers. Dana cut the world off after her 41 week date came and went. We were 4 days from driving out of Beaufort when I got the call. We were staying in the hotel at that point in our move. My phone rang at 5:48a.m. I was in a tired, exhausted mode of sleep and didn’t comprehend completely that someone was calling me until my voicemail whistled at me. I KNEW then it was BABY TIME!!!! Our truck had our horse trailer hooked to it and there was no way I was driving that far with it on. I would have been super duper slow. I knew she lived about an hour and 15 minutes away from me and that I had to hurry. I hurried and got dressed, dropped the trailer and drove! I arrived two hours to the minute from when she called me. I walked in and Jakob, her husband told me every was in the back room. I was fully expecting to walk in to her in the birthing tub in her sun room, not the bedroom. As I walked in I noticed she was wrapped with a towel in bed and she was looking down at the precious head of hair. She had already had the baby. I was so sad, yet so glad baby was doing well. After asking,”I missed it”? I was informed that the entire team missed the birth. Not one of us, including Dana thought Silas would make his appearance so fast. He was born at 6:40a.m. delivered by mom and dad alone. He weighed in at 11lbs and 2 oz. Mama is one awesome trooper! Talk about tough too.. hello… naturally delivering an 11lb 2oz ball of cuteness, at home, with only hubby. Wow.. she seriously deserves some type of award or medal. Go DANA!!!! So instead of photographing a birth, I got to photograph some of the first hours of Silas’ life. They couldn’t have been more in love and excited to meet their
little big man! Congratulations Dana and Jakob! Silas is perfect.
